Book club: on not joining or doing things for far too long

Last night hosted and attended, my first Book club ever. It was 6 of us, at our home. All friends, people that I know through my D&D group, or Social centre group or Ping Pong group.

We soon realized, that despite all of us really liking reading, none of us had attended a book club before. I have come across book clubs often, there are tons in the cities I have lived in, and plenty in the city I live in now.

This made me think: how many awesome hobbies, ways to connect, third spaces, non-commercial meetups, hobbies, intellectually stimulating and social pursuits are out there and that I let pass me by, for no real discernible reason? It was not for lack of time, nor opportunity, nor am I socially awkward, I just,.. simply didn't make it a priority. Bit silly.

Still, it is never too late, and better today, than never.

It was fun, we shared snacks, food, and talked about "A Wizard of Earthsea", authors, ideas, politics (in a pleasant way), places, and more than 15 other topics for almost 3 hours. It flew by. I wasn't drained or very tired at all after (like I would have been had I played video games perhaps, or gone to a very loud bar) but rather content and stimulated. We are planning on doing it monthly, so it is consistent but not a chore. Looking forward.
